Integrative Medicine Elective for Medical Students
The Complementary and Alternative Research and Education Program (CARE), Stollery Children’s Hospital, University of Alberta, offers two-week clinical electives for undergraduate medical students. In CARE clinic, students will gain exposure to the practice of evidence-based integrative medicine in a pediatric context. Currently, health care providers in this clinic include experts in care in traditional Chinese medicine, naturopathy, and massage therapy, who work in collaboration with conventional health care providers to deliver advice to families on complementary therapies they are considering for their children. Participants in these electives may also gain exposure to other aspects of this organization’s mandate, including its research and education portfolios.
Integrative Medicine Fellowship (Post-Residency Physician Training Program)
Pediatric Integrative Medicine Fellowship: Stollery Children’s Hospital, University of Alberta The Complementary and Alternative Research and Education (CARE) Program, part of the Division of General Pediatrics at the Stollery Children’s Hospital, is offering a clinical Fellowship in Pediatric Integrative Medicine. This program is not accredited by The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. The fellowship is focused upon providing opportunities to integrate skills and concepts about healing and wellness which represent the best evidence in both conventional and complementary medicine. The fellow will learn about a broad range of CAM topics, emphasizing the evidence base for each, and use this information to inform children and families, students as well as clinic and CARE employees. The CARE team will serve as mentors, teachers and role models for developing an integrative medical practice. The fellowship will follow general guidelines, but will be tailored to meet each fellow’s strengths and interests. Integrative Medicine Annual or Bi-Annual Continuing Education Conferences
The Canadian Pediatric Complementary and Alternative Medicine Network, hosted by the Complementary and Alternative Research and Education Program (CARE), Stollery Children’s Hospital, University of Alberta, regularly offers continuing education workshops and collaborates with other organizations to deliver training and education in integrative medicine in the pediatric context. The focus of such workshops is to advance the research agenda and research quality in pediatric CAM, and foster collaboration between CAM practitioners and researchers.
