September – Pain Awareness Month in the U.S.
Pain Awareness Month each September gives us an opportunity to refresh our knowledge with
the latest stats and research and to communicate integrative medicine’s options and clinical
applications in healthcare’s response to a global health burden. The National Health Interview
Survey, considered the best single surveillance source for monitoring chronic pain data in the
U.S., has reported that 20.4% of adults had chronic pain in 2019 and 7.4% of adults had highimpact chronic pain that frequently limited their life or work activities. It has been estimated that
chronic pain affects 30% of the world’s population.
