City of Hope, one of the largest cancer research and treatment organizations in the United States, is joining nearly 80 of the world’s most recognized academic medical centers and health systems as a new member of the Academic Consortium for Integrative Medicine and Health. For integrative medicine professionals and students, the Academic Consortium is the world’s most comprehensive community for advancing the practice of whole health care, with leading expertise in research, clinical care, education, and policy.
“The membership institutions within the Academic Consortium for Integrative Medicine & Health are connected in their commitments to transforming the future of integrative healthcare, and promoting whole health for every person” said Academic Consortium Chair, Amy Locke, MD. She added, “City of Hope brings years of invaluable experience and an exceptionally strong commitment to advancing patient care. Their work is representative of what it means to Champion Whole Health.”
With a National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer center at its core and a robust clinical network of 40 locations across the nation, City of Hope has been providing world-class patient care since 1913. Beginning at diagnosis, City of Hope’s supportive care program — which includes integrative oncology — provides cancer patients with comprehensive physical, psychological, social and practical support services that improve outcomes and enable them to maximize their personal and family strengths. City of Hope champions compassionate, whole-person health and is internationally known for their leading-edge clinical care in cancer as well as their transformative research in HIV/AIDS, diabetes, and other life-threatening diseases.
“We at City of Hope are thrilled to join the Academic Consortium for Integrative Medicine & Health. We have a shared commitment to advance research and education as well as expand use of integrative oncology in the clinical setting so that more cancer patients experience improved outcomes and quality of life,” said Dr. Richard T. Lee, Cherng Family Director’s Chair in the Center for Integrative Oncology at City of Hope. “The Cherng Family Center for Integrative Oncology is a first-of-its-kind national integrative oncology program, and we look forward to collaborating with leaders in the field for the benefit of patients with cancer everywhere.”
Lauding state-of-the-art treatments in cancer, City of Hope is one of only 56 institutions in the United States designated as a NCI comprehensive cancer center. City of Hope is committed to accelerating the research, education and clinical care needed to ensure cancer patients and their doctors have access to safe, proven integrative oncology approaches.
The newly-founded Cherng Family Center for Integrative Oncology at City of Hope will help researchers develop an evidence-based standard of care for integrating Eastern therapies into Western oncology for cancer patients nationwide. Beyond the Beckman Research Institute, City of Hope has a growing national system that includes a Los Angeles campus, a network of clinical care locations across Southern California, a new cancer center in Orange County, California, and treatment facilities in Atlanta, Chicago and Phoenix. City of Hope’s affiliated group of organizations includes Translational Genomics Research Institute and AccessHopeTM.
Membership with the Academic Consortium will help City of Hope expand their integrative medicine program as it develops under the leadership of Dr. Lee. It will also connect them with other institutions working toward the same goal and encourage knowledge-sharing, networking, and best practices.
