Adam Perlman, MD

Adam I. Perlman, M.D., M.P.H., is a senior associate consultant in the Division of General Internal Medicine, Department of Medicine at Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida. Dr. Perlman joined the staff of Mayo Clinic in January 2019 as Director of Integrative Health and Wellbeing for Mayo Clinic Florida. In January 2020, he was named Medical Director for Employee Wellbeing for Mayo Clinic Florida.

From 2011-2017, Dr. Perlman served as the Associate Vice President for Health and Wellness for the Duke University Health System and the Executive Director for Duke Integrative Medicine. Prior to his work with Duke, Dr. Perlman was Executive Director for the Institute for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (ICAM) at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ), where he was also an Associate Professor of Medicine. He held the UMDNJ Hunterdon Endowed Professorship in Complementary and Alternative Medicine and was Chair for the Department of Primary Care within the School of Health Related Professions, overseeing the Physician Assistant and Respiratory Care Programs.

Dr. Perlman earned his B.A. at Tufts University in Medford, Massachusetts. He earned his M.D. at Boston University School of Medicine, where he completed a residency, followed by a research fellowship in general internal medicine and a residency in preventive medicine. He simultaneously earned a Master of Public Health at Boston University School of Public Health.

Dr. Perlman specializes in both integrative and functional medicine. His clinical interests include the applied science and integration of lifestyle, nutrition, complementary medical modalities and health coaches in treating complex conditions as well as improving patient and employee wellbeing.

Dr. Perlman’s diverse research interests have focused on osteoarthritis, massage, chronic pain management, health coaching and resilience. He is frequently invited to give presentations on his work both nationally and internationally and has authored numerous journal articles, book chapters, abstracts and other written publications. His research has been published in the Annals of Internal Medicine and featured in the New York Times.

Dr. Perlman is a fellow of the American College of Physicians. He has also served on many boards and committees for professional organizations, is a past chair for the Academic Consortium for Integrative Medicine & Health and currently on the consortium’s Senior Advisory Group.

The Consortium’s Bravewell Distinguished Service Award is a way in which we honor one of the Consortium members for their tireless contribution to the Consortium's mission. This Service Award recipient will be chosen by the Board of Directors.

The award recipient should be someone that:

  • Has a record of service that has made a significant impact on the history and mission of the Consortium.
  • Is recognized across the large community of the Consortium as a whole.
  • Is a faculty member, student or otherwise associated with a Consortium member institution in good standing.
  • Has not previously received the award.
