THE UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS MD ANDERSON CANCER CENTER, DEPARTMENT OF BEHAVIORAL SCIENCE, is accepting applications for one open rank term tenured or term tenure track position in psycho-oncology. Candidates must have a strong record of scholarly achievement and extramural funding in psycho-oncology. We are particularly interested in individuals with research experience in psychosocial and psychobiological factors related to mental health with an emphasis on application to the etiology and pathogenesis of cancer and treatment of distress, other mental health factors and/or symptoms in cancer patients and related medical comorbidities. Additional areas of interest include psychoneuroimmunology, doctor-patient communication, psychiatric and neuropsychological disorders resulting from cancer treatment, evidence-based approaches to psychosocial care delivery for patients and families, behavioral factors in treatment adherence, risk of progression/recurrence, cancer survivorship and quality of life. The successful candidate will join a group of investigators with complementary expertise in psycho-oncology as well as nicotine dependence, energy balance, and genetic counseling and testing. She/he will have an opportunity to conduct research in the context of clinical trials utilizing behavioral and pharmacological treatments, and/or stand-alone human laboratory paradigms. These positions are fully funded, with an obligation for only 40% extramural support following the third year of appointment. Salary is extremely competitive and commensurate with experience. Qualifications: Minimum qualifications include a doctoral degree in clinical psychology, health psychology, or a closely related discipline; a medical degree in psychiatry or related discipline; and a focus on intervention or biopsychosocial research approaches to cancer treatment and survival. Preferred qualifications include a demonstrated track record of peer-reviewed funding and scientific publication, a commitment to collaborative and transdisciplinary research and a commitment to mentoring trainees and junior scientists.
